Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, is seeking to boost collaboration with the World Bank to fast-track the state's post-conflict recovery efforts.
In a meeting on Friday with Dr. Ndiame Diop, the newly appointed World Bank Country Director, Gov. Zulum emphasized the importance of the World Bank's ongoing support in critical areas such as education, agriculture, health, and livestock development.
The governor welcomed Dr. Diop to Nigeria and wished him success in his new role.
He highlighted Borno State's strong partnership with the World Bank, noting that his administration is investing heavily in healthcare, education, and agriculture - sectors crucial to the state's recovery strategy.
The governor also praised the impact of the World Bank's Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) in Borno, which has enabled numerous life-saving and transformative projects across the state.
Dr. Diop pledged the World Bank's continued partnership with Borno State in these key areas and commended the state's impressive performance in implementing MCRP projects.
He noted that Borno is leading in project execution among Nigerian states and expressed his commitment to strengthening this partnership through a personal visit to the state.
Dr. Diop also expressed the World Bank's commitment to supporting efforts to reduce malaria cases in the state and strengthen the livestock sector, acknowledging Borno's significant contribution to Nigeria's livestock industry.
He stated that as peace returns to Borno, the World Bank aims to support development initiatives to bolster the state's economy and improve livelihoods for its citizens.
