Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has donated N30 million to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Ebisingha Alari, a slain army officer who lost his life battling Boko Haram insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle.
The governor presented the donation to the wife of the late officer in Maiduguri on Saturday.
He extended his condolences to the family and others who have lost loved ones fighting to restore peace in Borno State.
'Yesterday, we sent a high-level state government delegation to the funeral. However, I felt the need to personally extend my condolences on behalf of the government and people of the state,' Gov. Zulum said.
The donation aims to support the family in purchasing a house, as Lieutenant Colonel Alari did not own a personal residence.
The governor assured the family that this donation is just the beginning, and the state government will continue to provide support to the families of fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country.
'We are also presenting a token donation of N30m for his immediate family to purchase a house because I was told that Lt Col Alari doesn't own a personal house. I want to assure you that apart from this, we will continue to offer support to you and the families of our fallen heroes who have put their lives in defence of our country,' he assured.
The presentation was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shuaibu, and Sen. Kaka Shehu Lawan, senator representing Borno Central, among others.
