In a significant breakthrough, the Nigerian Army's Special Forces under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized Amir Abu Fatima, a key leader of Boko Haram/ISWAP, along with other terrorists in the Kukawa axis of Borno State.
This development was announced by the Nigerian Army on its official Facebook page on Friday afternoon.
The operation is expected to bring relief to residents in the Kukawa local government area, which has been plagued by terrorist attacks during the insurgency.
The neutralization of Amir Abu Fatima is a major blow to the terrorist group, and it remains to be seen how this affects their operations in the region.
In the post, the army said during the intense exchange of fire, Abu Fatima, was fatally wounded by gunfire. His deputy, several explosives experts, and multiple other terrorists were also eliminated in the confrontation.
Troops recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines, assorted ordnance, and IED-making materials. The mission was completed without casualties on own forces.
This recent success is part of the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to eradicate terrorism and restore peace in the North-East region.
In recent weeks, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled several attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, killing scores of insurgents and recovering explosives and weapons.
The military's continued synergy between ground forces and aerial assets has played a decisive role in neutralizing terrorists, and their commitment to restoring lasting peace and enabling socio-economic recovery in the region remains unwavering.
