Eight families in Borno State are grappling with the painful loss of their loved ones who were members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack along the Dikwa–Marte road on Tuesday.
In a gesture aimed at easing their burden and honoring the sacrifice of the deceased, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Thursday visited the grieving families in the Fezzan ward of Maiduguri to offer condolences and announce government support.
'I want to announce an initial assistance of N5 million to be given to each of the family to take care of their immediate needs,' he said.
Beyond the immediate financial aid, the governor also pledged to support the long-term wellbeing of the families, particularly the children of the deceased.
'Government of Borno State will also provide full scholarship to children of the deceased members of the CJTF. For those without children, we will extend support to other family members,' he added.
Describing the fallen CJTF members as martyrs, Gov. Zulum praised their bravery and commitment to securing their communities, assuring that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
He offered prayers for the repose of their souls and urged the families to find strength in the legacy their loved ones left behind.
The tragic loss of the eight CJTF operatives is one of the risks faced by community security volunteers in the region.
However, the government’s response seeks to bring not only relief but also recognition of the immense contributions made by these individuals in the fight against insurgency.
