In one week, about 210 suspects have been arrested in Maiduguri by the Borno State Police Command.
CP Naziru Abdulmajid, the command's commissioner of police disclosed the development on Friday during a press briefing at the command headquarters, Maiduguri.
According to him, the suspects were arrested during a series of intelligence-led operations conducted between June 11 and June 18, 2025.
He said that a large cache of illicit drugs, weapons, and other contraband were recovered from the suspects.
The commissioner, who assumed office recently as the 43rd head of the command, reaffirmed his commitment to tackling criminal activities and restoring public confidence in the security architecture of the state.
'As I stated during my maiden briefing, we will not tolerate crimes such as handset snatching, thuggery, youth gangsterism, and other social vices.
'These arrests are a testament to our renewed determination to secure our communities,' the CP said.
He noted that of the 210 arrested, 86 have been convicted, while 124 remain under investigation.
The operations, which included targeted raids, stop-and-search exercises, and increased surveillance, were spearheaded by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) – Social Vices Unit, in collaboration with other security agencies.
Among the exhibits recovered were, 58 sachets of tramadol, 175 Exzol tablets, 130 D5 tablets, 395 wraps and 1 kilogram of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Others are, 28 Ermo tablets (hard drugs), 10 bottles of codeine-based syrup, 19 shisha pots and pipes, 9 knives and 2 customized antelope horns.
'These items were found in the possession of individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking and other illegal activities that contribute to youth delinquency and insecurity,' CP Abdulmajid explained.
The commissioner praised the dedication and courage of the officers involved in the operations, and extended appreciation to the Borno State Government for revitalizing and equipping the RRS with operational tools and support.
He also acknowledged the attorney general and the commissioner of justice for ensuring swift prosecution and convictions in accordance with the law.
CP Abdulmajid appealed to residents of Borno State to support the police by sharing timely and credible information that could help in curbing crime.
'To the good people of Borno State, continue to partner with us. Report suspicious movements or individuals. It is only through collective effort that we can sustain peace and security,' he urged.
He further warned criminals and those engaged in illicit activities to desist or be prepared to face the full force of the law.
'Let me be clear: under my watch, the Borno State Police Command will not provide a safe haven for criminals. We will pursue them relentlessly until law and order is fully restored,' the CP concluded.
