The Presidency has taken significant steps to enhance the operations of the National Freight Hauliers Association (NFHA) by issuing directives to key stakeholders.
According to a dispatch from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), a letter has been sent to the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, mandating all state governors to work with the NFHA.
This collaboration is expected to foster a more streamlined and efficient transportation system across the country.
This development comes after some state-level challenges, such as the recent suspension of the NFHA Borno State branch from operations earlier this year by the state government.
NFHA's Chairman in Borno State, Abubakar Jidda, said despite such setbacks, the association has been working to resolve issues and improve its operations.
He said that a matching order has been issued to all service chiefs to constitute a joint Task Force to work with the association. This joint effort will likely enhance security and facilitate the smooth movement of goods and services nationwide.
The Attorney General of the Federation has been instructed to establish mobile courts for heavy-duty and haulage in all 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This initiative aims to provide a more effective and efficient judicial process for addressing issues related to heavy-duty and haulage operations.
The NFHA's activities will be monitored by a committee from the presidency, with a view to recommending the establishment of a commission headed by the association's National Chairman as Director-General and state chairmen as deputies.
Jidda assured that this oversight will ensure that the association operates within a structured framework, promoting accountability and effectiveness.
The presidency has also designed a mode of operation for the association to ensure seamless operations nationwide.
In furtherance of these developments, a meeting with all service chiefs and an inauguration ceremony will be held at the Presidential Villa in less than two weeks.
Jidda added that these directives are expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the NFHA in facilitating the transportation of goods and services across the country.
