A fatal road traffic crash has claimed nine lives and left seven others injured along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

According to a statement released on Friday by Corps Commander Usman A. Muhammad, Sector Commander, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 pm and involved two vehicles: a Toyota Hummer bus belonging to Borno Express and a commercial trailer.

Preliminary investigations attribute the cause of the crash to speeding, which led to a loss of control.

The victims include five male adults, one female adult, two male children, and one female child.

Eight passengers were confirmed dead at the scene, while one additional victim succumbed to injuries at the Specialists Hospital, Maiduguri.

The seven injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Corps Commander Usman A. Muhammad expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, assuring that investigations are ongoing to determine further details surrounding the incident.

Authorities have urged all motorists to exercise greater caution and strictly adhere to speed limits while traveling on the nation’s highways.
