Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated a new 48-classroom integrated learning High Islamic College in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area.

The new college is designed to provide a "second chance" for almajirai, integrating a formal education curriculum—including English and Mathematics—with traditional Islamic and vocational skills training.

During the inauguration on Friday, the governor emphasized that the initiative is a crucial step toward addressing illiteracy and the root causes of insecurity in the state.

'We will ensure they get a quality education which can qualify them to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) that allows them admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria,' he said.

He also announced a daily meal program to help retain students at the school, expressing his delight at the strong enrollment numbers.

This Baga project is part of a larger government effort, with about 20 similar integrated schools already established across Borno State.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, noted that the government has provided free uniforms, books, and other learning materials to the students.

He also highlighted that the teaching staff consists of 23 community-based teachers from Baga, with the principal promoted from within the Local Education Authority.
