Muktar Modu, the father of the late Ya Falmata, a young girl in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, explained that his daughter died after falling ill, not by suicide.
Earlier reports claimed the minor had taken her own life due to a planned forced marriage by her father.
The father and his wife was invited by the chairman of the local government, Mali Bulama Mali Gubio, alongside other community members, including security operatives, in a video seen by our reporter.
The parents said their daughter had been sick for several days and was admitted to a hospital before she passed away.
They confirmed that her death was caused by malaria-related fever.
Modu Bulama, who first posted the false report on social media, apologized and acknowledged that the report was misleading and based on unverified community rumors.
The chairman, urged youths to verify information before posting on social media and emphasized that those spreading false reports will be held accountable.
