Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has visited Borno scholarship students in India on Monday to assess their welfare and strengthen the government’s support for their academic journey.
The visit began at Sharda University in Noida, where the governor met with beneficiaries of the state’s foreign scholarship program.
The problem highlighted during the visit was the financial pressure faced by students studying abroad.
The situation has affected their stability and learning environment.
Gov. Zulum responded by presenting N500,000 to each student to ease their financial burden.
He told the students that the Borno government remains fully committed to their education and future.
'I am here today for one simple reason, to remind you that Borno state government believes in you and is investing in your future,' Gov. Zulum said.
He reminded the students that their success is tied to the future of the state.
'You are critical to the progress and rebuilding of our state, the knowledge and skills you are acquiring here will be beneficial to this and future generations,' he said.
'Remain focused, be disciplined, and shun all distractions. We are counting on you to return home and become the leaders and innovators who will drive our state forward,' he added.
Some students expressed relief and gratitude after receiving the financial support.
'This shows he doesn’t just make promises from afar; he comes to see us and understand our situation,' one of the students said.
'This motivates us to work harder and make Borno proud.'
After the visit to Noida, the governor moved to Lucknow and gave the same financial support to Borno students at Integral University.
He also directed that Borno scholarship beneficiaries studying in Malaysia receive the same assistance.
