The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded ordnance beneath a telecom mast in Maiduguri, averting a potential explosion and threat to public safety.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, police public relations officer, borno state command.
Police said the suspected explosive device was discovered around 11:06 a.m. on December 15, at Chuskon in the Federal Low Cost Area of Maiduguri.
The report was received through the Divisional Police Officer of ITE Police Division.
Following the alert, commissioner of police Naziru Abdulmajid directed the EOD-CBRN team from Base 13 Maiduguri to respond immediately.
The explosive ordnance disposal unit cordoned off the area and rendered the device safe in line with standard operating procedures.
Preliminary assessment showed that the ordnance had two protruding wires and was deliberately placed to cause harm.
Police also recovered a hand plier, a T-shirt, and a pair of shoes at the scene.
No casualty was recorded, and normal activities later resumed in the area.
After the operation, police officers conducted safety awareness sessions to educate residents on reporting suspicious objects promptly.
The commissioner of police directed all divisional police officers to intensify patrols and strengthen security around critical infrastructure, including communication facilities.
The command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property while investigations continue.
Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious items through emergency lines provided by the command.
