The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, has praised Governor Babagana Umara Zulum's administration for its efforts in education, health, and human capital development, particularly in girl-child education and malnutrition.
Mr. Fall made the commendation during a high-level delegation visit to Maiduguri, Borno State on Tuesday, led by the Acting Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur.
The delegation included ambassadors from India, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Malaysia, and Qatar, as well as the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Bernard Doro.
'We want to show that beyond the security challenges, there are transformative projects underway in Borno State,' Mr. Fall said.
He highlighted the state's education program, vocational training, and malnutrition treatment centre as examples of efforts to address the root causes of crises.
'The education program we have seen, the girl education program, the vocational training, the malnutrition treatment centre. All of these show the effort that has been made to change the dynamic of what people are really going through,' he added.
The minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Bernard Doro, also praised Gov. Zulum's leadership, citing impressive infrastructure development despite the state's security challenges.
'The governor has shown leadership... vocational training centres, comprehensive schools, and excellent facilities are ready to train and graduate people out of poverty,' Doro said.
The visit aimed to enable partners to assess the humanitarian situation in Borno State firsthand.
