Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has taken the lead in efforts to revive the New Nigeria Development Company Limited (NNDC).
He pledged to reposition the company as a platform for regional economic growth.
He chairs the implementation committee set up by the Northern Governors’ Forum.
The committee includes the governors of Kwara, Zamfara, and Plateau as members.
The inaugural meeting was held on Monday at the Kaduna State Secretariat.
At the meeting, Gov. Zulum outlined plans to restructure the NNDC into a leading development finance institution for the 19 Northern States.
He recalled that a technical committee had submitted recommendations in 2018.
He stressed that the new body would ensure 'smooth execution in line with global best practices.'
The governor assured management and staff that the NNDC would be restored to its full potential.
He described the company as 'the strongest economic legacy uniting the 19 Northern States, symbolized by its iconic 10-storey headquarters in Kaduna, which must be preserved.'
Gov. Zulum also pledged to address institutional challenges and improve staff welfare.
He said a feedback system would be created to incorporate workers’ input into the restructuring process.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governors Mani Malam Mummuni of Zamfara, Kayode Alabi of Kwara, and Josephine Piyo of Plateau.
Also in attendance were senior government officials and top NNDC executives led by Group Managing Director and CEO, Shehu Usman Mai-Bornu.
