Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, the immediate Executive Secretary of Borno Geographic Information System, BOGIS, has been appointed commissioner for works and housing by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday morning by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani.
The appointment comes as Gov. Zulum approved portfolios for nine newly sworn-in commissioners confirmed by the Borno State House of Assembly.
Engr. Bababe will replace Engr. Mustapha Gubio, who served for years in the ministry and was the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state.
Engr. Bababe's posting to works & housing places him at the center of the Gov. Zulum administration’s infrastructure drive as the government enters the final phase of its tenure. With his background in land administration and GIS, he is expected to bring technical expertise to ongoing road, housing, and urban renewal projects across Borno.
The governor also created a new ministry of planning and economic development, naming Hon. Maina Yaumi as its pioneer commissioner.
The move, the government said, is to fast-track post-conflict recovery and stimulate economic growth.
Other portfolios approved:
1. Hon. Satumari Abdulaziz Samaila - Inter-governmental affairs and special duties
2. Hon. Babagana Malarima - Religious affairs
3. Hon. Engr. Tijjani Alkali Goni – Water resources
4. Hon. Arch. Isa Garba Haladu – Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement
5. Hon. Engr. Mohammed Habib – Environment
6. Hon. Engr. Dr. Bawu Musami – Agriculture and Natural Resources
7. Hon. Ibrahim Hala Hassan – Trade, Investment and Tourism
8. Hon. Maina Yaumi – Planning and Economic Development
All commissioners are to assume duties immediately.
Urging them to deliver results, the governor said: 'The commissioners must rededicate their efforts towards the successful implementation of government policies and programmes. They should work closely with Permanent Secretaries and staff to ensure effective service delivery and enable the people of Borno State to enjoy greater dividends of democracy.'
