Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the immediate release of N5.8 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities owed to retired state public officers.

The approval, according to the Commissioner for Finance, Mohammed Abatcha Geidam, marks a significant step in the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its retired civil servants.

In a statement issued on Monday, Geidam said the governor also directed that gratuity payments be made monthly going forward, alongside regular pension payments.

'This means that cleared gratuity payments will now be integrated into the state’s monthly financial schedule to prevent future backlogs,' the Commissioner explained.

He described the approval as a reflection of Governor Buni’s compassionate leadership and appreciation for the contributions of Yobe’s retirees.

'By clearing this substantial backlog and institutionalizing a prompt, monthly payment system, the governor has provided much-needed financial relief and restored dignity to our senior citizens,' Geidam added.

The statement also noted that the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, is finalizing arrangements for the immediate and transparent disbursement of the approved funds.

According to Geidam, the move aligns with Governor Buni’s broader fiscal and social agenda aimed at ensuring accountability, economic stability, and the welfare of all Yobe State citizens — especially those who have devoted their years to public service.
