The Chairman of the Football Association, FA, in Borno State, Babagana Kalli, popularly known as Ozogla, has assured the strategic planning committee of the upcoming Ozogla Cup of his full commitment and support for the tournament.
He gave the assurance on Wednesday during a brief meeting with the committee’s chairman, Abubakar Abdulaziz, also known as Bolori.
Speaking to our reporter, Bolori said Ozogla pledged to back the competition fully and has significantly increased the prize money for this year’s edition.
'He graciously increased the prize money from N170,000 last year to N1,000,000 this year,' Bolori said.
The FA chairman also pledged his support for the upcoming coaching clinic, assuring the strategic planning committee chairman that a CAF D course will be included in the workshop.
According to Bolori, this year’s cup is expected to be challenging, entertaining, and exciting because the football spirit in the state is at its highest level.
He commended Ozogla for his committed leadership and assured him of the committee’s readiness to ensure the success of the competition.
The Ozogla Cup, now in its 20th edition in the state, is projected to register over 200 teams across Borno.
Registration is currently ongoing and the tournament is scheduled to kick off next month.
For the first time, this year’s edition will also feature a women’s category, with 8 teams projected to register for the maiden women’s competition.
