A concerned citizen of Borno State, Garba Mai Dawa, has called on the "who and who" of Northern Nigeria to take the crises in the region seriously before the situation worsens.

Mai Dawa made the call in a video shared on his social media handles and obtained by this reporter.

Speaking in Hausa, he lamented that elders and leaders in the Northern region are not speaking out on the security and human rights challenges affecting the area.

'It has been long I didn’t post something like this. Our elders in the Northern region are not speaking on the crises going on in the region,' he said.

He cited the example of how the Boko Haram insurgency started in Borno State, attributing its escalation to the failure to address it early.

According to him, human rights violations, killings of innocent people, injustice, and government negligence are the genesis of most of the crises bedeviling the North.

'Injustice and negligence from government for prompt action is the genesis of all the crises, and if care is not taken the crises will consume all of us,' Mai Dawa warned.

He added that insecurity in the region 'is going out of hand that the government itself is finding it difficult to overcome it.'

The Borno citizen said he was forced to make the video because of his love for the country and hope for stability, noting that the worsening situation is also affecting businesses and livelihoods.

'My wish is to prioritise my business but things are getting out of hand that force me to do the video,' he said.

Mai Dawa urged leaders across Northern Nigeria to speak up and take decisive action to prevent further escalation of violence and instability in the region.
