Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has received the report of the Borno State Flood Relief Committee, led by Baba Bukar Gujabawa, in Maiduguri.
The committee expressed gratitude to the governor for entrusting them with the task of assessing and verifying the damage caused by the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri.
Since their inauguration in September 2024, the committee has worked tirelessly to ensure that aids were distributed fairly and effectively to those affected.
The total donation received by the committee is approximately N28 billion, which includes a N10 billion donation from the Borno State Government.
The committee has disbursed over N18 billion in cash to 101, 330 households, including food and non-food items, and has also received support from partners like UNHCR, WFP, and others to alleviate the suffering of those affected.
Private schools were also assisted, and the committee procured food and non-food items worth billions of naira.
With a remaining balance of over 4 billion naira in the relief account, the committee made several observations and recommendations, including the rehabilitation and overlaying of roads with additional support from the state government, and the distribution of remaining food and non-food items to host communities.
Governor Zulum commended the committee for a job well done, emphasizing that the state government will implement the recommendations made by the committee.
He also commended the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their support in alleviating the suffering of the affected communities.
Additionally, he appreciated the support from his colleague governors, humanitarian agencies, and individuals who contributed to the relief efforts.
