Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists and dismantled several makeshift camps along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement issued on Monday by OPHK's spokesman, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the operation was carried out on September 7, 2026 by troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai.

He said the troops were on a routine patrol when they encountered the terrorists.

The military said the troops responded decisively, forcing the insurgents to withdraw in disarray.

Reinforcements were later deployed, allowing the troops to secure the ambush site and carry out further exploitation of the area.

During the clearance operation, troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations.

Capt. Goni said items recovered from the camps include one motorcycle, bicycles, one magazine, ammunition, and rocket-propelled grenade bombs.

The military confirmed that there were no casualties among its troops during the encounter.

However, it noted that some military vehicles sustained damage.

Despite the damage, Capt. Goni said the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission.

'The operation underscores the resolve and fighting spirit of troops of Operation Hadin Kai to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the theatre,' the statement said.

The Joint Task Force added that the general security situation within the area of responsibility remains calm but unpredictable.

Troops, it said, will continue aggressive patrols and coordinated security operations to safeguard lives and property.

The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements, persons or activities to security agencies.
