The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has visited Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, on an operational tour to boost the morale of frontline soldiers.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu arrived on Saturday morning and was received at the Air Force Base by the Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, and other senior military officers.
The visit is aimed at boosting the morale of troops in the theatre and assessing the operational situation in the North East.
The visit comes as troops have recorded successes in the fight against insurgency in the region, including the killing of dozens of terrorists while repelling an attack in Kukawa, in the northern part of the state.
However, few days ago, insurgents attacked a military base in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a number of soldiers and civilians.
The COAS is expected to receive briefings from various sector commanders and other activities lined up during the visit.
