The Borno State Police Command has arrested 68 suspects and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons during a raid on drug hotspots across Maiduguri metropolis.
The operation was carried out on the night of October 31 and November 2, 2026 at about 06:00pm by operatives of the RRS-Anti-Social Vices Unit as part of the continued war against illicit drugs and related social vices.
Police said operatives combed identified hotspots including Gwange, Santiago, Texaco, Ajari, Gadan Zare, Budum, Shehuri, Bulabulin, Abbaganaram, Baga Road Gidan Dambe and Unimaid 202 Housing Estate.
Others includes, Mairi Kuwait, Zanneri, Polo, Giwa Barrack area, Kwanan Yobe, Jiddari, Kaleri, Damboa Road, Circular and Moduganari.
What police recovered during the raid include eight bottles of Codeine syrup, 13 tablets of Diazepam, 11 tablets of Tramadol, 80 tablets of D5 and 12 tablets of Exol.
Also recovered were seven packs of Colorado, 104 wraps of Erinmo, 66 wraps of Indian hemp, two wraps of methamphetamine popularly known as ice, four ice bunkers and 11 pieces of ice bulb used for smoking the substance.
Also, the operatives recovered three sets of shisha pots and dangerous weapons including four sharp knives and one axe.
The police said 68 suspects were arrested for public nuisance and possession of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons, adding that several suspects were screened and released while others remain in lawful custody as investigation continues.
