Over 2,900 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State received essential food, non-food items, and cash support from Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, marking a significant step towards rebuilding their lives.
They received the support on Sunday, when the governor visited the local government.
Each household head received N50,000, while each wife was given N20,000.
In addition to financial assistance, the beneficiaries were relocated to a newly constructed 500-unit housing estate, providing them with a secure and stable place to call home.
The resettlement houses have public facilities such as schools, primary healthcare centre, water facilities and other basic amenities.
Gov. Zulum emphasized the importance of sustainability during the resettlement initiative, encouraging beneficiaries to plant trees and warning against selling allocated houses.
He also reassured the community that agricultural activities would be supported to ensure their livelihoods.
The governor also announced plans for further development, which include, the completion of 500 housing units within six months in Dalwa town, specifically for communities along the Dalwa Axis and Damboa-Biu Road.
The construction of another 500 houses in Aulari town also in Konduga.
He also directed for the assessment of College of Business and Management Studies Konduga for renovation.
This resettlement initiative marks progress towards closing all IDP camps in Borno State.
