Borno State Police Command has released its 2024 crime statistics, reporting 14 kidnapping cases throughout the year in the state.


The command's commissioner of police, CP ML Yusufu presented these figures at a press briefing held on Tuesday in Maiduguri, highlighting the command's efforts to address kidnapping and other crimes.


The command's efforts have resulted in 34 arrests in connection with these kidnapping incidents.


Of those arrested, 9 suspects have been charged to court, while 5 are currently awaiting trial.


CP Yusufu outlined the command's strategic approach to policing, which involves working closely with other security agencies to share intelligence and coordinate efforts.


This collaborative approach enables the command to respond effectively to security threats and prevent crimes.


He said the command engages with local communities to build trust and gather information, recognizing the importance of community involvement in preventing and addressing crimes.


He added that the command also prioritizes capacity building, providing training and resources to officers to enhance their skills and effectiveness.


'This investment in officer development enables the command to respond to complex security challenges and provide high-quality service to the community.


'The command utilizes community-based organizations to gather intelligence and stay ahead of potential threats, ensuring a proactive approach to addressing security concerns,' he explained.
