In a proactive effort to address the issue of gender-based violence, the Borno State Police Command hosted students from NAMU Model Secondary School on a one-day educational excursion to the command headquarters in Maiduguri.

The visit, which took place on February 20, 2025, aimed to familiarize the students with the vital role of the police in ensuring societal safety and security.

The command's commissioner of police, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal emphasized the importance of community engagement and education in preventing crime and promoting public safety.

During the visit, the students received informative lectures on various key topics.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the command's spokesman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the students were enlightened on the importance of public relations in building trust between the police and the community.

He said the students also learned about community policing, which emphasizes the need for collaboration between law enforcement and the community to prevent crime.

They received a lecture on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), a critical issue that affects many individuals in Nigerian society.

The lecture highlighted the need for awareness, prevention, and support for victims of SGBV.

In addition to these topics, the students also learned about public safety and security, including measures to prevent accidents and crimes.

ASP Daso added that they were also educated on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of essential security tips in preventing crimes.

The students also received a lecture on crime prevention, which emphasized the need for community involvement in preventing and reporting crimes.

'The students were also given a comprehensive tour of the command, providing them with valuable insights into the daily operations and responsibilities of the police force,' ASP Daso said.

In her vote of thanks, Saratu Emmanuel Balami, one of the students, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the commissioner and pledged to be responsible ambassadors.

The event was facilitated by ASP Daso.
