The Borno State Police Command has pledged deeper collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to strengthen child protection efforts, particularly in preventing and responding to violence against children by terrorist and violent extremist groups.
This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the UNODC’s EU-funded STRIVE Juvenile team to the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
The visit aimed to welcome the new Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, and reinforce the ongoing partnership.
The delegation was led by Mr. Abba Ali Yerima Mustapha, National Project Officer of the STRIVE Juvenile Project, a UNODC initiative focused on protecting children affected by terrorism.
Mr. Abba commended the Command for its sustained support and collaboration and emphasized the urgent need for strategic efforts in addressing violence against children.
He highlighted the importance of media engagement and public sensitization in shifting societal attitudes, and revealed plans for an upcoming capacity-building initiative in partnership with the police.
In response, CP Abdulmajid described the partnership as strategic and lauded the UNODC for being the first to bring "human-sensitive interventions" to the Command under his leadership.
He expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, especially children, and to ensuring public safety across Borno State.
