The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Anti-Vices Unit of the Borno State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating drug abuse, prostitution, and gangsterism in the state.
According to ACP Abioye Babalola, commander of the RRS, the unit recovered drugs worth N27 million during their operations.
He made the announcement on Tuesday during a visit by the command's Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Naziru, to the RRS office in Maiduguri.
He said a total of 1,541 suspects were arrested.
Of these, 247 were released after being found not guilty, while 1,197 were charged to court. Out of those charged, 1,164 were convicted.
ACP Babalola highlighted challenges facing the unit, including the need for an administrative office, welfare improvements, and operational vehicles.
The commander requested that the unit be allowed to use biometric capturing of suspects for essential work from the Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Naziru, stating that it will enhance their work and help them in proactive measures in the future.
ACP Babalola commended his personnel for their work and assured continued efforts in combating social vices in Borno State.
