Women and youth are set to benefit from the newly established College of Nursing in Gwoza, as Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, announced that the institution will commence academic activities before the end of the year.

The governor made the announcement during an inspection tour of completed and ongoing projects in Gwoza, one of the local government areas in Borno State that was severely impacted by the activities of Boko Haram terrorists, leading to significant displacement and loss of life.

The college of nursing aims to train a new generation of nurses and midwives, especially young women, to serve their communities and support the growing healthcare needs of the state.

'This college will help train a new generation of nurses and midwives, especially young women, who will serve their communities and support the growing healthcare needs of our state,' Gov. Zulum said.

The college is one of two such institutions established by the governor's administration to tackle the chronic shortage of healthcare professionals in the state.

An executive bill to provide legal backing for the colleges is currently before the Borno State House of Assembly, and the governor pledged to sign it into law once passed.

The announcement has sparked hope among young people in the region, especially girls whose access to education and professional training was disrupted by over a decade of insurgency.

To complement the college's activities, Gov. Zulum also inspected the newly renovated Gwoza General Hospital, directing the Chief Medical Director to recruit more medical doctors, nurses, and midwives.

Beyond education and health, the governor inspected the construction of 500 housing units in Wala, expected to be completed by September, and provided critical support to local security efforts by donating vehicles and motorcycles to the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Warabe.

As Gwoza rises from years of conflict, Gov. Zulum's initiatives are restoring futures, especially for women, children, and youth.

The upcoming nursing college stands as a beacon of renewed hope.
