The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned a 72-unit housing complex for teachers in Mafa Local Government Area.
The complex, comprising two and three-bedroom apartments, is part of the Zulum administration’s efforts to address the shortage of teachers’ accommodations and enhance welfare in the education sector.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, is among the government’s initiatives to revitalize education, particularly in rural communities affected by over a decade of insurgency.
Governor Zulum, while presenting keys to the beneficiaries, emphasized that the welfare of teachers is essential to achieving quality education.
He added that providing decent and secure housing remains a key priority of his administration.
The newly commissioned complex includes 24 two-bedroom semi-detached units and 48 units of eight blocks of three-story buildings with three bedrooms each, complete with basic amenities.
The design aims to provide comfortable and dignified living spaces for teaching staff and their families.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, stated that the beneficiaries were selected from both primary and secondary schools.
He commended the governor for prioritizing teachers’ welfare by providing them with decent accommodation.
