The office of the First Lady of Borno State, Associate Professor, Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, met with a delegation from Lake Chad Times Newspaper to strengthen collaboration on issues affecting women, children, and other vulnerable groups.
The meeting, held on Thursday, focused on the need for stronger media support to address gender‑based violence and improve public awareness across the state.
The First Lady expressed her readiness to work closely with the newspaper to amplify community issues and expand support networks for victims.
'I assure you of my full support—don’t hesitate to reach out when the need arises; my doors are always open,' she said.
She congratulated the pioneer members of the organization for starting from scratch and wished them well.
The delegation was led by Prof. Halima Idrisa Gambo, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, who said the visit aimed to introduce the paper to the First Lady and seek partnership.
She reaffirmed Lake Chad Times’ commitment to amplifying the voices of the voiceless.
Abdulkadir M. Lawan, Editor‑in‑Chief of Lake Chad Times, explained the establishment and mission of the paper.
'I stand here today on behalf of Lake Chad Times Newspaper, an organization founded in August last year by 21 dedicated individuals—16 women and five men—with a clear mission: to amplify the voices of women, children, and other vulnerable groups, emphasizing their education, healthcare, and livelihoods,' Lawan said.
'Our inspiration for establishing Lake Chad Times came from a simple truth: every community grows stronger when women are seen, supported, and given space to lead.
'In Borno State, the gender gap remains wide. We are proud to note that more women in Borno are stepping into journalism—brave, talented, and determined,' he added.
According to Mr. Lawan, the partnership will pave the way for the organization to grow further.
He thanked the First Lady for granting them audience and accepting their proposal.
This partnership marks a new step toward improving awareness, support, and coordinated response for those most affected in the state.
