The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Borno State Council, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the sudden death of Alhaji Ahmed Mari, the Borno State Correspondent of Champion Newspaper.

Alhaji Mari passed away on Tuesday, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, humility, and high professional standards.

In a statement signed by the State Secretary, Chiroma Ali Ibrahim, the union described the late journalist as a consummate professional and a gentleman of the press who carried out his duties with utmost integrity, fairness, and passion.

The council noted that Alhaji Mari was a pillar of the Borno State Correspondents’ Chapel.

Throughout his years of practice in Borno, particularly during the challenging years of the insurgency, he remained committed to truthful reporting and promoting peace.

'His calm, wise counsel, and friendship will be sorely missed within the entire Borno media family,' the statement said.

The NUJ Borno Council extended its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues at the correspondents’ chapel, the management and staff of Champion Newspaper, and the entire journalism fraternity in Nigeria.

The union prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, rewards his good deeds with Aljannah Firdaus, and grants his grieving family, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
