The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced a new, prolonged power outage, confirming that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has entered the "final phase" of a major infrastructure upgrade.

This latest disruption follows a planned five-day outage that affected four North East states last week.

In a new statement issued on Wednesday, YEDC informed customers that the ongoing work by TCN will now impact the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Potiskum 132kV lines.

Consequently, areas supplied by the Savannah and Biu TCN stations will be temporarily without electricity.

This development comes just four days after the conclusion of a scheduled five-day maintenance period, which ran from Tuesday, June 10, to Saturday, June 14.

That initial outage was for major upgrade works on the Jos-Gombe 330kV and Jos-Bauchi-Gombe 132kV transmission lines, including the installation of new transmission towers.

During that time, key injection substations in Damaturu, Molai, Yola, and Jalingo were completely without supply.

While some areas like Biu were temporarily supplied from the Dadin Kowa Hydro plant during last week's outage, the new phase of work means Biu has now lost its power supply.

According to YEDC, the continued upgrades are essential for improving the quality and quantity of bulk power supply to its substations, which will ultimately enhance service reliability and efficiency for customers.

'As we work towards restoring and enhancing our collective power supply, we assure you that these efforts will yield significant benefits in the long run,' the YEDC Management stated, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the extended disruption.

While several areas are now experiencing outages, YEDC confirmed that electricity supply remains available in Maiduguri, which is being back-fed from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP).

Both announcements have stressed that the extensive project is being led by TCN as part of a broader effort to strengthen the regional transmission network.

YEDC has reiterated its appreciation for the public's patience and assured customers that normal supply will be restored as soon as the work is completed.
