In a move to bolster security and promote cultural heritage, the Borno State Government has committed to implementing various projects in 2025, as outlined in the ministry of information and internal security's budget proposal.
The proposal was defended before the Borno State House of Assembly Committee on Information and Internal Security, chaired by Hon. Bukar Modu, representing the Konduga constituency.
At assembly, commissioner of information and internal security, Prof. Usman Tar, briefed the committee on the ministry's achievements in 2024, highlighting successes in areas such as the rehabilitation of the Government Printing Press, purchase of operational vehicles for security agencies, and support for resettlement efforts.
The ministry also showcased its cultural achievements, including winning several trophies at the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST).
The ministry's proposed 2025 budget includes several key projects aimed at enhancing the state's infrastructure and promoting its cultural heritage. The ministry plans to construct a Borno State Cultural Centre, which will serve as a hub for cultural activities and promote the state's rich cultural diversity.
Also, the ministry will remodel the Open Air Theatre, providing a modern and conducive space for cultural performances and events.
According to the budget, the ministry also plans to construct Fire Service Stations in the 27 Local Government Areas, ensuring that all communities have access to essential emergency services.
The ministry will rehabilitate Military Barracks, providing improved facilities for security personnel. The establishment of a Joint Central Command and Control Centre will also enhance the state's security infrastructure, facilitating effective communication and coordination among security agencies.
Other key projects in the budget include the construction of an Office Complex for the Rapid Response Squad, which will provide a modern and efficient workspace for security personnel, construction of museums and historical sites across all emirates in Borno State, promoting the state's cultural heritage and preserving its history reconstruction of BRTV Maiduguri, providing a modern and state-of-the-art broadcasting facility.
The committee acknowledged the ministry's achievements and assured maximum support for the proposed budget.
Permanent secretary of the ministry, Modu Alhaji Mustapha, and directors of administration, finance, and other parastatals were all in attendance during the budget defence.
