Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to ending the over a decade-long insurgency in Borno State and the North East region before the end of the year.
Abubakar made this declaration on Friday during a working visit to Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, where he addressed frontline troops fighting the insurgency.
The minister emphasized that the federal government is determined to do whatever it takes to stop the insurgency, acknowledging recent attacks by terrorists in the state.
'We won't give the terrorists space to regroup themselves. Let's go there and finish out the bastards,' he said, urging troops to remain resolute in their efforts.
Abubakar assured the troops of the government's commitment to their welfare, operational equipment, and other needs, recognizing the harsh conditions they operate in.
'We know the condition you are working in, the temperature, the terrain, among others. We will surely be committed to your welfare,' he said.
The minister's visit to Borno State, accompanied by state minister of defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, chief of defence staff, Gen. CG Musa, and other senior military officers, aimed to engage with troops and stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the terrorism plaguing the state.
