The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Police Command, CP Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, has appealed for calm among displaced flood victims in Maiduguri following a protest that erupted at approximately 7:00AM on Friday.

He made the appealed in a statement issued by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the command's spokesman.

According to Daso, displaced individuals had obstructed traffic at the Baga Road junction, citing neglect in relief assistance and humanitarian aid.

'CP Yusufu swiftly addressed the affected individuals, emphasizing the importance of patience and assuring that the Borno State Government, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and humanitarian organizations have instituted relief measures,' the statement said.

The commissioner cautioned against impeding traffic, warning it could compromise peace and relief operations.

Displaced victims have received token cards for government-distributed palliatives.

The public is encouraged to conduct lawful activities without apprehension, as the command upholds law and order, Daso added.

This development comes after the devastating floods in Borno State, which have affected over one million people.

The floods, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam, have also led to concerns about the spread of infectious diseases.
