Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development has hosted the Lake Chad Times Newspaper team to her office on Friday, pledging support for their efforts in amplifying issues affecting the girl child and vulnerable groups.
Abdulkadir M Lawan, Editor-in-Chief of Lake Chad Times, formerly TwentyOne, informed the commissioner that their women-led media organization is focused on reporting issues around women, children, and other vulnerable groups in relation to their health, education, and livelihoods in North East Nigeria.
'Women and children are the most vulnerable people in our society, and there is a gap in reporting issues around them. So, our organization is here to bridge the gaps by amplifying the voices of these vulnerable groups,' he said.
While responding, the commissioner said the well-being of children and women in our society is very crucial, especially during the post-insurgency era in Borno State.
She highlighted the key areas where the Borno state government is putting effort to reintegrate and reunify rescued women and children back into the society.
'These people come with different health conditions, especially victims of gender-based violence. So we try as much as possible to prioritize their mental health and grant them a community to support their psychological well-being,' she added.
She expressed satisfaction with Lake Chad Times' work and offered her ministry's collaboration and support, acknowledging the media outlet's strides in bridging the gap in reportage on women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Mr. Lawan thanked the commissioner for her support and collaboration, pledging to continue reporting on issues affecting vulnerable groups and seeking government support in tackling these issues and informing policy decisions.
This collaboration is crucial in amplifying the voices of the vulnerable, informing policy decisions, and driving positive change in the lives of women and children in Borno State.
