In response to the devastating floods in Borno State, two non-governmental organizations, the Center for Advocacy, Transparency & Accountability Initiative (CATAI) and the Unique Care and Support Foundation (CASFOD), have donated N10 million and twenty thousand Naira to support education in the affected areas.
The donation, presented to the ministry of education, science, technology and innovation, aims to provide essential scholastic materials to schools in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Areas, benefiting over 400,000 children affected by the floods.
'We will continue to support the good people of Borno State in bouncing back better.
'Education is key to rebuilding communities, and we cannot afford to leave it behind,' said Abubakar Sadiq Muazu, leader of CATAI.
Muazu commended the Borno State Government's efforts in supporting school resumption, particularly commissioner for education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe.
'Your leadership in ensuring children return to school despite the challenges is commendable,' he said.
The devastating floods have displaced numerous families, making it challenging for them to send their children back to school due to limited access to educational materials.
CATAI and CASFOD are also donating 700 school bags and books to support student retention across various locations.
This contribution is crucial, considering the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Borno, which has resulted in widespread displacement, food insecurity, and limited access to healthcare.
The education sector has been severely affected also.
The donation from CATAI and CASFOD will play a vital role in helping children resume their education and mitigating the long-term effects of the floods on education in Borno State.
