Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. O.O Oluyede brought Christmas cheer to frontline troops in Maiduguri, Borno State on Wednesday, as he joined the troops of Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai for a special Christmas luncheon.
This marked his second visit to the region in just a month.
During the event, which was marked by refreshments, cultural display, among others, COAS assured the troops of his selfless, dedicated, and committed leadership, expressing his happiness to be celebrating with them.
He emphasized the importance of collective effort in defeating the terrorists destabilizing the country's peace and security.
The COAS served food to wounded soldiers and promised to prioritize their welfare.
'I promise to take you first, in everything my soldiers will become first, expect new welfare packages from this new year,' he assured.
He also observed a minute of silence to honor fallen troops who lost their lives in the fight against insurgency.
Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Maj. Gen. W. Shuibu, thanked the COASO for his visit and pledged the theatre command's commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in the North East region.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Bukar Tijjani, commended the COAS's visit and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the troops.
He assured the troops of his continued support and partnership in the fight against insurgency.
