The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has assured Nigerians that the military is working to end terrorism once and for all.
He gave the assurance when he paid an assessment visit to Maiduguri on Thursday, in response to resurgence attacks by terrorists across Borno State.
The CDS explained that the resurgence of attacks is due to pressure on terrorists in the Sahel region, forcing them to increase attacks in Nigeria, especially around the porous borders of the Lake Chad Basin.
However, he assured that the military is on top of the situation and has procured sophisticated weapons to deploy alongside new strategies.
He urged Nigerians not to panic, as the military and security agencies are firmly in control.
The CDS also called on the public to help the military by reporting suspicious movements, emphasizing that security is a collective effort.
'We are working diligently to address these challenges. Security is not a one-man business. I appeal to everyone to join the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP, banditry, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality for the peace and development of our country,' he said.
During the visit, the CDS also inspected the Giwa Barracks armory, which was recently gutted by a fire caused by heat waves.
The CDS's visit to Maiduguri comes after recent attacks on military formations in the state, including Marte, Dikwa, Gajiram, Rann among others.
