Dr. Mairo Mandara, chief adviser to the Borno State governor on sustainable development, partnerships, and humanitarian affairs, has been announced as one of the three finalists for the 2024 Women Building Peace Award by the United States Institute for Peace (USIP).

This recognition is a testament to her efforts in promoting peace and development in Borno State.

As the founder of the Girl Child Concern (GCC), Dr. Mandara has made significant strides in empowering girls through education.

Her organization established a secondary school for girls displaced by the insurgency, providing a safe space for them to learn and grow.

Over 250 IDP girls from Borno and Yobe have benefited from her campaign, with some graduating from universities and others still pursuing their education.

Dr. Mandara's work extends beyond education. As coordinator of the humanitarian agency, she works closely with government agencies to ensure sustainable development and peacebuilding in the state.

Her commitment to creating positive change has earned her recognition as a leader in peacebuilding.

The USIP received nominations from 52 countries, and Dr. Mandara was selected alongside Lilly BeSoer and Visaka Dharmadasa for her extraordinary dedication to creating sustainable peace in her community.

In a statement issued by Prof. Usman Tar, commissioner of information and internal security, the Borno State Government has expressed pride in Dr. Mandara's achievement, acknowledging her as a daughter and peacebuilder of the state.

He commended Dr. Mandara on this recognition.
