Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially named the 72 Metro Housing Estate after Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The governor made this announcement on Wednesday during the commissioning ceremony of the Metro Housing Estate, located on the former Police Ground in Maiduguri.

He also named the Njimtilo 500 Housing Units after Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as a gesture of goodwill and appreciation for his leadership.

The Shehu Sanda Kura Road has also been renamed in honor of the Shehu of Borno, Alh. Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi.

At the ceremony, Gov. Zulum emphasized that these projects demonstrate his administration's commitment to providing affordable housing, improving infrastructure, and fostering economic growth in Borno State.

He also announced that the Kashim Shettima Housing Estate will be allocated to military officers, security personnel, and federal government workers in the state, while 210 houses within the Mai Mala 500 Housing Units will be allocated to police officers.

'The Kashim Shettima Housing Estate will be allocated to military officers, security personnel, and federal government workers in the state to alleviate housing challenges for these groups.

'A total of 210 houses within the Mai Mala 500 Housing Units will be allocated to police officers currently residing in the Metro Police Barracks, facilitating the construction of a state-of-the-art International Conference Centre on the vacated site,' Gov. Zulum explained.

He highlighted the significance of these projects, including the Borno Express Flyover and the dualization of Shehu Sanda Kura Road, in enhancing the quality of life for residents, improving traffic flow, and boosting economic activities.

'Borno Express Flyover is an iconic structure that will revolutionize transportation in our state, thereby reducing travel time and providing a safer commuting experience,' he added.

While responding, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, expressed gratitude for the honor and commended Borno State's dedication to recovery and development.

He emphasized the strong bond between Borno and Yobe states, united by shared culture and tradition, and highlighted their joint efforts to recover from the challenges of Boko Haram insurgency through their rehabilitation, reconstruction, and recovery programme.
