Suspected Boko Haram/ Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) members have killed at least 40 farmers and fishermen in Dumba, a community near Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.


This was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Borno's commissioner of information and internal security, Prof. Usman Tar.


According to him, the attack which occurred on January 12, 2025 left many others missing.


In the statement, the state governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has condemned the attack, describing it as a 'heinous act of violence against our innocent citizens.'


He has also commiserated with the victims' families and assured them that the government will do everything in its power to find those still missing and reunite them with their loved ones.


The governor has called on the armed forces to track down and neutralize the perpetrators of the attack, emphasizing the need for decisive action against the terrorists.


He also urged citizens to stay within the designated safe corridors and avoid venturing into areas that have not been cleared by security agencies.


Prof. Tar said investigations into the attack have commenced, and the government has promised to take necessary action to prevent such incidents in the future.


He commended the armed forces for their efforts in clearing vast tracks of land for human resettlement and agriculture.


'The government has clearly demarcated the land for safe farming and economic activities, allowing the military to focus on clearing the unsafe areas where security clearance and combat operations could be conducted,' Gov. Zulum said.


He emphasized the importance of citizens cooperating with the security agencies to ensure their safety.
