The Kaduna State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike, bringing academic activities to a grinding halt.
The strike, which began on February 18, 2025, is a response to the state government's failure to address the union's long-standing welfare concerns.
According to the ASUU chapter, the state government has been neglecting its responsibilities, leaving union members without paid salaries, earned academic allowances, pension contributions, promotion arrears, and group life insurance payments.
The ASUU said despite numerous meetings and appeals, the government has refused to comply with the union's demands.
The strike has left students uncertain about their academic future, with all academic operations coming to a complete standstill.
The union has vowed to continue the walkout until all outstanding welfare concerns are resolved.
In a statement, the chairman of the ASUU chapter emphasized the union's commitment to ensuring fair treatment for its members and providing high-quality education at the university.
He urged the state government to take immediate action to address the union's concerns and restore normalcy to the institution.
As the strike continues, students, parents, and other stakeholders eagerly await a resolution to the standoff.
