Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding illegal land transactions along Phase One of the Maiduguri–Monguno Ring Road, citing growing concerns over fraudulent sales by unscrupulous land vendors.
In an official announcement dated May 07, BOGIS revealed that the land extending one kilometer from the road corridor has been formally acquired by the Borno State Government for public infrastructure development.
The agency emphasized that over 700 affected farmers were duly compensated as far back as June 2024, before the commencement of construction activities.
The agency stressed that any sale or purchase of land within the designated corridor is unlawful, and prospective buyers risk losing their investments.
BOGIS has urged all individuals and developers to conduct proper legal verification through its office before engaging in any land transactions in the area.
'This warning is to protect the public from falling victim to illegal land dealings,' the statement read.
'We advise all prospective buyers to verify land titles with BOGIS before making any commitments.'
The Maiduguri–Monguno Ring Road is a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation and connectivity across Borno State. Authorities say strict measures are being taken to ensure that the project proceeds without interference or illegal encroachment.
For further inquiries or verification, the public is encouraged to contact BOGIS directly via its official email: info@bogis.org.
