The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Professor Umaru A. Pate, has donated twenty new laptop computers to the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

The donation is a significant boost for the department, which was recently upgraded to a full-fledged Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

The computers were presented last week during a one-day interactive session held for mass communication students from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State University, and Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri.

The event was a collaborative effort organized by UNIMAID's Department of Mass Communication, the Northeast Zone of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB).

Professor Pate handed over the computers to the department through the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele.

During the presentation, Prof. Pate pledged to facilitate more support for the new faculty to ensure it can compete globally by equipping students with the quality journalism and communication skills needed in the contemporary world.

In his remarks, UNIMAID's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mele, expressed profound appreciation for Professor Pate’s generosity and his commitment to supporting communication professionals and students.

He affirmed that the university would provide all necessary support for the growth of the new faculty.

The Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Abdulmutallib A. Abubakar, who is also the ACSPN’s Northeast Deputy President, thanked Prof. Pate for empowering the department.

He promised that the computers would be used effectively to inculcate essential 21st-century knowledge and skills in the students.

The students also expressed their gratitude, noting that the session was a rare opportunity to draw insight, wisdom, and inspiration from one of Nigeria's most respected communication scholars.
