Victims of the over a decade-long Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State are set to benefit from a new initiative aimed at revitalizing irrigation farming in the region.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has pledged to revamp the Biu Dam, which is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, particularly in Biu Local Government Area of the State.

He made the pledged when he paid a homage to the Emir of Biu at his palace.

The Biu Dam project is part of the governor's efforts to improve food security and provide sustainable livelihoods for those affected by the insurgency.

The victims, mostly women and elderly, who lost their means of livelihoods due to the crises are to benefit from this initiative.

Many of these victims have been relying on government and non-governmental supports to survive, but with this initiative, they will have the opportunity to become self-reliant, enabling them to care for their children and rebuild their lives.

In addition to revitalizing the Biu Dam, the governor announced plans to roll out more development projects in the area before the end of his tenure.

He emphasized the importance of unity among political leaders in the state, which he believes will result in increased opportunities and prosperity for Borno.

The Emir of Biu, Mai Mustapha Umar Mustapha II, commended Governor Zulum for his efforts, praising the execution of numerous people-oriented projects in his emirate.

He also lauded the governor's 1 billion naira empowerment programme, which aims to support youths and vulnerable individuals in the area.
