Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has condoled with communities in Damboa and Askira-Uba local government areas following the devastation caused by a flood and windstorm that claimed lives and destroyed property.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Dauda Iliya, special adviser to the governor on media, described the incidents as tragic and deeply distressing.

The flood, triggered by heavy rainfall in Wovi and Gumsuri communities of Damboa, resulted in the death of two women, submerged homes, and left dozens of families displaced.

In Rumirgo, Askira-Uba, a severe windstorm tore through the area, causing widespread destruction to both public and private infrastructure.

'I received with profound sorrow the sad news of the devastating flood disaster in Wovi that claimed the lives of two women, as well as the destruction of homes in Gumsuri. Equally distressing is the windstorm in Rumirgo. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and everyone affected by these disasters,' the governor said.

He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilize immediate humanitarian assistance to all affected areas.

He assured residents that no victim would be left unattended.

'I have instructed SEMA to deliver relief materials to Gumsuri and Wovi without delay. We have already dispatched emergency aid to Rumirgo,' he said.

Governor Zulum also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to disaster preparedness and called for stronger adherence to early warning systems to minimize the impact of future natural disasters.
