Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the resettlement of an additional 3,000 displaced families in Malam Fatori, bringing the total number of households returned to the area to 5,000.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, during a visit to the town on Saturday, alongside other top government officials to commiserate with residents following a recent deadly Boko Haram attack that claimed nine lives and injured four others.
'Already, Borno State Government had resettled 2,000 households, and plans are underway to resettle another 3,000 households soon, making it 5,000 in total,' Professor Tar said, assuring the community of continued security arrangements and government support to sustain their stay.
Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, delivered Governor Zulum's condolence message to the people, assuring them of the state government’s commitment to their safety and the stabilization of Malam Fatori, a strategic border town in Abadam Local Government Area.
'We are here at the instance of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is currently on official duty abroad, to express his heartfelt sympathy over the recent attack. He has directed the government and security agencies to ensure the protection of this town,' Hon. Mele conveyed.
To strengthen local defenses, the commissioner also announced that excavators have been deployed to dig security trenches around the town, warning residents against collaborating with insurgents.
'Anyone found colluding with Boko Haram to endanger the people of Malam Fatori will be cursed using the Holy Qur’an,' he warned.
As part of the relief efforts, the government presented ₦500,000 to each bereaved family and ₦250,000 to each of the four injured victims currently receiving treatment.
