The Borno State Police Command has arrested five suspects in possession of 7,871 sachets of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), known locally as Tamuwa, meant for treating malnourished children.
The arrests were made through the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Anti-Social Vices Unit under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso on Saturday, the first operation took place on April 12, 2025, when operatives intercepted a Sharon Galaxy vehicle at Njimtilo, Maiduguri.
The vehicle was found carrying 3,314 sachets of Tamuwa, and two suspects were arrested on the spot.
Another operation followed on June 9, 2025, at Legacy Estate in Maiduguri, where a Volkswagen Golf car was intercepted with 4,557 sachets of the food.
Three additional suspects were apprehended during the raid.
The five suspects have since been charged to court, while the seized therapeutic food has been handed over to the Borno State Government through the Commissioner of Health, Prof. Baba Mallum Gana, for proper distribution.
The police command said the arrests underscore its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that humanitarian supplies reach the vulnerable people they are meant for.
The Command also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through its emergency lines: 08023473293 and 08068075581.
