The Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation has announced the immediate closure of all primary and secondary schools in the state for a period of two weeks, effective today.
This directive applies to both public and private schools.
According to an official statement signed by Grema Bulama, Acting Director of Schools Services, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, the closure is a precautionary measure in response to the ongoing flooding across Borno.
The ministry cited the adverse effects of the floods on the safety of students and staff as the reason for the closure.
'We urge all concerned parties to comply strictly with this directive. We regret any inconvenience this notice may cause and appreciate your understanding,' he said.
The closure will remain in place until Monday, September 23rd, 2024.
The ministry has communicated the directive to key educational stakeholders in the state, including the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board, the Teaching Service Board, WAEC, NECO, and the Nigerian Union of Teachers, among others.
The floods have disrupted various communities in Borno, prompting concerns over safety and accessibility to educational facilities.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with further updates expected before schools are scheduled to reopen.
