The Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has reached out to flood victims at Bakassi Camp and Federal Government College Monguno.

Led by Zuwaira Gambo, the commissioner and her team, the ministry distributed cooked food in takeaway packs to over 1,000 people on Thursday.

In a statement seen by this reporter, the commissioner said the intervention is necessary to ensure that those displaced by the flood have food to sustain them during this difficult time.

'We will keep providing you with cooked meals and other essential supplies,’ the commissioner said, adding that her ‘team will continue visiting all flood victims in their various camps to ensure that no one is left without the necessary aid.'

The statement further said: 'Since Monday, the Ministry has also been providing mental health and psychosocial support, especially to children found unaccompanied on the streets due to the flood. These vulnerable children are being cared for at the Bulunkutu Rehabilitation Center, where they are receiving emotional and psychological support to help them cope with the trauma of displacement.'

Gambo, who cut short her official assignment in Lagos to return to Maiduguri after learning about the disaster, expressed her deep concern for the victims.

‘I was heartbroken to see the conditions you are in, but I want you to know that under the leadership of Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Borno State Government is fully committed to your well-being.

‘We will do everything possible to help you return to your homes soon. Please remain patient. Seeing you in this condition is difficult, but we will stand by you and continue to support you until things improve.’

Earlier today Governor Babagana Umara Zulum also donated N10 000 to head of households affected by flood in the camp.
